NE 2006 LCM 12 & Under Championships

Last February, at 12 and under Championships, the Kingfish had 3 swimmers qualify, we swam 2 relays, and finished in 50th place as a team with 8 total points. This season, at 12 and under Championships, the Kingfish had 9 swimmers qualify, we swam 6 relays, and finished in 27th place as a team with 61 total points. Nice going Kingfish!!!!
On Thursday, at the 12 and Under Championships, being held in the Blodgett Pool at Harvard University (arguably the nicest and fastest pool in the Northeast), our 11-12 relay team of Krista Librett (1:13), Abby Mullen (1:14), Sarah Goldberg (1:13), and Shelby Rader(1:11) beat their seed time in the 400 meter free relay by 7 seconds. Each swimmer swam a personal best time on their leg. They went 4:52 and got 14th place in New England!!
Also on Friday, at the 12 and Under meet, the following swimmers had exceptional swims: Maggie Barry 9-10 50 free in 35.6 dropping a second from her best time and finishing 28th in New England (out of 53 swimmers). Chris Churchill 9-10 100 back in 1:39.3 dropping a second from his best time. Maggie Barry 9-10 50 fly in 39.2 dropping a second from her best time and finishing 19th in New England (out of 60 swimmers). Shelby Rader 11-12 200 back in 2:54.6 finishing 27th in New England (out of 40 swimmers). Krista Librett 11-12 200 back in 2:54.2 finishing 26th in New England (out of 40 swimmers).
Our 9-10 girls 200 medley relay team of Mary O'Sullivan, Jill Coghlan, Maggie Barry, and Kayla Burgess finished in 2:54, coming in 10th place in New England. The 11-12 girls 200 medley relay team of Krista Librett, Elise Campbell, Abby Mullen, and Shelby Rader dropped a second from their seed time and finished in 2:31, placing 16th in New England.
Saturday, was just as exciting. Shelby kicked us off by dropping a second in her 100 free, clocking 1:10.0. Then Chris Churchill shaved 3 seconds off his best time in the 100 free, finishing in 1:24.0. The 100 meter back featured Shelby Rader dropping 2 seconds from her best time to go a 1:20. Krista Librett swam in the following heat and also took 2 seconds off her best time with a 1:18. That qualified her for finals. She came back at night and lowered her time another second, finishing in 1:17.9, just 3 tenths of a second from qualifying her for Zones.
Maggie Barry followed that by dropping 2 seconds from her best time in the 100 fly, finishing in 1:41. Chris Churchill chopped 4 seconds from his personal best time with a 3:31 in the 200 IM. Then came the relays. Girls 9-10 400M free relay of Kayla, Maggie, Jessie Goldberg, and Mary crushed their seed time in going 5:44, finishing 13th in New England. Girls 11-12 200M free relay of Shelby, Abby, Elise, and Krista then finished their relay in 2:14, placing them 17th in New England.
On Sunday, Krista's 100 back time of 1:17.93 qualified her for the New England Open. That meet is designed for swimmers ages 13 and over. She's 12. Krista also qualified 10th for the finals in the 50 back, finishing at 36.24, 13th overall.
The 9-10 200M free relay team of Kayla Burgess, Mary O'Sullivan, Maggie Barry, and Jessie Goldberg finished 8th in New England, quite a move up from their 13th seed.
