KINGFISH PLACE 16TH OUT OF 72 AT 13 & OVER CHAMPIONSHIPS
Head Coach Jay Craft started the Kingfish swim team four years ago and in that short time the team has climbed the ranks to place among the biggest and best swim teams in New England. In the over 13 age divisions at the New England Open Championships Kingfish placed 16th out of 72 New England swim teams with 7 individual swimmers and 5 relay teams qualifying to swim at the meet held at MIT March 1-4.
MEN'S RELAY PLACES SECOND AND QUALIFIES FOR SECTIONALS!
One of the most exciting events for the Kingfish was the Men=s 400 free relay. Brian McGuiness ( Scituate), Clarke Madigan (Duxbury) , Brian Keane (Hanson) and Max Butler (Duxbury) teamed up to finish SECOND in New England with a time of 3:16.48 qualifying for Sectionals.
KINGFISH SWIMMER MAX BUTLER WINS FIRST PLACE !
18 year old Max Butler, who will be heading to Umass Amherst in the fall, accumulated the highest overall point score at the meet by placing 2nd in the 100 back, 200 back and 400 IM, 3rd in the 100 fly, and additional top ten finishes in the 200IM, 200 free, 100 free, and 50 free. In six of these events Butler=s best times qualified him for the upcoming Sectionals Championship.
CLARKE MADIGAN MAKES ANOTHER SECTIONAL CUT !
Kingfish Captain Clarke Madigan, heading to Notre Dame in the fall, also took advantage of this meet to clock some of his best times and top finishes. Madigan placed 3rd in the very exciting 100 backstroke race with a best time of 54.24 qualifying him for Sectionals and 4th in the 200 backstroke. In the grueling distance events of 1000 yds and 1650 yds Madigan finished 10th and 11th respectively. Additional best times for Madigan included 4:33.10 in the 400IM and 22.97 in the 50 free.
KINGFISH SWIMMER PATRICK O'NEAL PLACES IN TOP 20 IN 6 EVENTS.
This was a break out meet for the 14 year old Duxbury resident and Kingfish swimmer Pat O'Neal. Swimming in the 13-14 year old division O'Neal recorded 6 best times and 6 top 20 finishes. Exciting events for O'Neal included the 200 fly in the morning session when he took 6 seconds off his previous best time and then came back for finals to chop another 7 seconds for a 2:07, finishing with the 8th fastest time in the event. In the 100 back O'Neal broke a minute with 11th fastest time 59.32. O'Neal also finished 13th in both the 200 back and 500 free.
In addition to swimming the third leg of that exciting second place finish in the 400 free relay, Brian Keane of Hanson qualified for 5 individual events in the 15 and over age group. Highlights of his meet included a fast 500yd swim of 5:04 and best times in the 100 free, 200 free and 200 IM.
Additional Kingfish swimmers qualifying for individual events included 17 year old Jessica Perry of Middleboro swimming nine events, Kaitlin Buckley (Duxbury) with four events and clocking a best time in the 50 free, and Barry Su (Duxbury) with strong performances in 5 events.
Participating in various relays for the team were Drew Husted, Cameron Crowell, Sarah Goldberg, Krista Librett and Avery Riddle of Duxbury, Erin Campbell of Marshfield, Kendra Perry of Middleboro, And Tom Cheever of Kingston.
