Spring Rec Signup/Long Course Registration

Written by Lynn Oneil Posted February 10, 2016 at 9:46 pm

Spring Rec Signup……

So, winter rec will be finishing up on Sunday February 28th for Kingston and Saturday February 27 for Medfield. Spring rec signup is now live and you are able to get your swimmers registered for this session that will be starting up March 1st for both locations and running through end of May.

Space fills quickly for spring session so get your swimmer registered early and remember, you MUST register for each new session unless you signed up for multiple sessions already. Your child is NOT automatically rolled into the next session.

Short Course ending, Long course will begin………….

So we start the flurry of championship meets this weekend at Keefe Tech in Framingham for our regional meet. All information was sent out with meet info and entry in the past few days as well as timer assignments and meet requirements.

The schedule as of now will be all competitive groups will swim balance of February and entire month of March. We will break for the first week of April and then again for the week of spring break. Please note this could change and I will keep everyone updated and this DOES apply to both locations.

That being said, long course registration is currently live so feel free to register your competitive swimmer at any time for long course which will run first of April through end of August.

Best of luck to all swimmers as we move through this very busy, yet very exciting time of the season!

Any questions feel free as always to email, text, or give me a call!

Apparel Required for Champ Meets

Written by Lynn Oneil Posted February 7, 2016 at 11:53 pm

With all of our championship meets quickly approaching, please make sure all swimmers are wearing current team suits, using team caps, and that they have team tshirts, warmups, parkas, towels, etc (some or all of the above) to wear on deck and represent properly.

Please note this is not an option but a requirement.  I do have caps, some suit sizes, some tshirt sizes, and towels available so please be in touch prior to attending the upcoming meets if you need anything and I’d be happy to set a time up for you to get what is needed.

Thanks for everyones cooperation,

Lynn

Update on Coach Craft

Written by Lynn Oneil Posted February 6, 2016 at 8:58 pm
Dear Kingfish Families,

I just want to thank you for your patience and understanding while Coach Craft tries to recover from his back/leg injury.  Several of you have asked me how is doing and it dawned on me that perhaps some of you do not know what he’s been going through.

Last Friday, Jay took Sam to NH so that Sam could ski with his Uncle.  Jay’s sciatica was bothering him so he hadn’t planned on skiing.  Once he arrived (after the driving part), he was in excruciating pain.  He didn’t think he could drive home Saturday.  He made it home and went to the ER.  After 3 more trips to the hospital last week, he still was unable to do anything except lay flat on his back.  Any movement was very painful.  I wasn’t much help, as I had to work and take care of the kids all week.

He received a cortisone shot on Wednesday and was told that “hopefully” it will have an effect in 3-5 days.  It has had minimal effect.  In all the years I have known Jay, he has never been able to sit still and do nothing, yet that is the only thing he can do without experiencing pain.  He is going nuts and worries about being unavailable to his students, his swimmers and their families.

Last night, he forced himself to attend the swim meet and then couldn’t drive home.  This morning, he alternated between watching Sam and others swim and lying down in my car.   He tried to stay for his own swimmers for the afternoon session and just couldn’t do it.

I am telling you all this because Jay is very private and doesn’t like making a big deal out of things, but you should know that he is trying his very best to resume his usual activities.  Please bear with us while he rests.

Thank you all, especially the exceptional coaching staff who have stepped up without hesitation to fill in for him!  We are very lucky to have you.

Cross your fingers that a few more days is all Jay will need and thanks so much for your support.

Tips from Coach Craft

Written by Lynn Oneil Posted February 2, 2016 at 9:52 pm

Hello Kingfish Parents,

A couple helpful suggestions as we head into a very busy championship meet season.
1.  If your kids swim and you are not there in person to see it, but you already heard about it either on Meet Mobile or by word of mouth, please act like you have NOT heard about it before.  Nothing deflates a kid’s excitement more than trying to tell you how great they did and you say that you know because you already saw it online or talked to your spouse about it.  Let them have their moment.
2.  Please don’t offer them any rewards for swimming fast.  The reward for swimming fast is the happiness in seeing that their hard work paid off and new motivation to swim even faster.
Thanks and swim fast!!

LOCKER ROOM INFO

Written by Lynn Oneil Posted at 9:50 pm

Dear Kingfish parents,

Please read and then share this email with your swimmer. It is important so we can keep the use of our terrific facility!

We are so fortunate to have had a good relationship with the Kingsbury Club for the past 13 years that our team has used their pool. Periodically we need to remind everyone about proper locker room etiquette, as the use of these facilities is completely dependent on our team members using them appropriately and with respect.

It has come to our attention that some of our swimmers have been engaging in behavior that violates both team policy and our agreement with The Kingsbury Club. First, swimmers are using phones with cameras in locker room spaces. It is strictly against team policy for swimmers to do so. Second, swimmers are extremely messy, leaving bags and equipment strewn all over the space, and then moving into the front part of the locker room. The expectation is if swimmers leave their belongings in the locker room during practice, it needs to be as confined as possible, and under no circumstances are swimmers to use the front part of the locker room.

The Kingsbury Club expects us to hold up our end of the bargain with respect to proper locker room etiquette. In the past, we have had to set up a rotation of parents to conduct locker room duty to ensure these policies are followed, and we hope to avoid doing that. However, if we don’t see a change in habits we will need to revisit that practice or possibly lose our locker room privileges completely.  Please take a few minutes to share these rules with your swimmer.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call or email me.

Thank you!

Lynn

A Big Official Thank you

Written by Lynn Oneil Posted at 8:54 pm
Just wanted to send a shout out to the 3 stroke and turn officials we are so lucky to have representing our team at countless meets throughout the past many years!

Dennis Reimer, Tony Fornaciari, and Scott Milbert all contribute so much of their time at meets during the year and we just all need to let them know how much we appreciate them!

Thanks guys, you round out our team and we couldn’t be successful without your contributions!

Please ask me how you can join these guys on deck and help out the team, or better yet ask one of them exactly what you can do to get your credentials!
